Maixabel, a cinema name
“Maixabel” is also a Spanish film directed by Icíar Bollaín in 2021. The film narrates the real meeting that took place in 2011 between Maixabel Lasa, widow of Basque politician Juan María Jaúregui, and two of the ETA members who participated in his assassination in 2000, as part of the terrorist group’s prisoner reintegration programme.
The film has received several awards and recognitions, such as three Goya Awards (Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best New Actress), the Basque Film Award at the San Sebastian Festival, and the Film and Education in Values Award at the Forqué Awards.
