In 2008, Kabosu was rescued by her owner, Atsuko Sato, after a puppy mill closed. Kabosu had been used in animal breeding in Asia for the indiscriminate reproduction of Shiba Inu puppies. Her life changed completely when Atsuko adopted her and gave her a loving home.
But why did he call him “Kabosu”? The answer is curious: Atsuko chose that name in honor of a Japanese fruit that looks like a lemon and whose shape resembles Kabosu’s face.

Kabosu’s image became the Dogecoin logo, and this coin started as a joke, but quickly gained followers and market value. Even American business magnate Elon Musk invested large amounts in Dogecoin, further enhancing Kabosu’s fame.
Kabosu’s legacy
On May 24, 2024, at the age of 18, Kabosu left us. His owner, Atsuko Sato, shared an emotional message on Instagram: “I’m sure Kabosu was the happiest dog in the world. That makes me the happiest owner in the world.”
